Prodigy Box

If you ask any successful business person or entrepreneur what the most important contribution is to their success, I can guarantee most will say having a great mentor. I think everybody recognizes the importance of having a role model, but I want to tell you how mentors are more powerful than you can possibly imagine in their ability to transform your life.

When I was 19 years old, I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life other than playing in the NFL which was a stretch beyond a stretch. One of the life-changing moments when I was younger was when my dad told me “why not you?”

At 20, I wanted to find the good life. Aristotle wrote about eudaimonia, which was his definition of the good life. Eudaimonia in Aristotle's view was wealth, wealth, happiness, love. But at 20, finding and achieving those Four Pillars was intimidating, and I knew I couldn’t do it alone, but I thought that I just needed to find one person who could help me through life.

So I wrote to my mentor, who was the smartest person I could think. I wrote this direct message and asked, "Will you tell me how to design my life? I need help and could use your guidance." I got this message back from him. I read it, and he wrote "Sorry, Tex. I can't help you. The modern world is too complicated. You will never find all the answers from just one person. If you're lucky, a handful of people along the way will point the way out."

So much for that.

I was a little discouraged at the time, but now I realize he was giving me a hint. There's this myth that you have to go inward to find truth. But the truth is you have to go outward. If you can download the consciousness, the mindset, of people who have gone before you. The smartest, the wisest, the most intelligent, the most experienced people are the best to learn from, and there are many ways to learn from them.

There are many different forms of mentors. Books are one of the greatest mentors around, because almost everybody can get a book and read it. Through books, you can learn from the greats throughout history, read about how Steve Jobs started Apple, and gain the knowledge of people you could never actually meet.

One of the great things about living in today’s world is the internet. There are millions of Youtube videos that can teach you new things. You have the ability to learn from today’s most successful people in their industry at your fingertips.

Having a mentor that can guide you along your path is crucial to success. Albert Einstein had a mentor that he would have lunch with every week while in school. Arnold Schwarzenegger flew halfway across the world to meet his mentor to help him become a bodybuilder.

Mentors don’t just teach you skills, they help change your mindset. Mindset comes before success, and having someone to help you develop yours is the best way to grow.

Who have been the most important role models and mentors in your life? You can find mentors everywhere, you just need to look.

Stay Strong,
Tex

P.S. Over the years I've learned SO MUCH its crazy, every obstacle along the way has been another lesson. Not only things like building a social circle offline, which I still practice to this day, but also lessons about love, health and just being happy man.

Life can feel like a complicated puzzle at times, and it's our job as humans to figure out how the pieces go together. That's why I created my new Mindset Destiny Program and my Prodigy Book Club also known as Prodigy Box.

I am not the smartest person I know and I often say I am an opinionator rather than an expert. One thing I know for certain is behind success is the story and process. How we learn and implement mindset into our lives will ultimately affect how we go about life and success. I hope you can be apart of that with me. Are you ready to take that plunge into the rest of your life?
